This is just on the outskirts of Pocatello. By clicking on the first pushpin you can get directions from where ever you are.. The ride ends at the top of Barton Rd. just a couple miles from the start. You can also access Blackrock Canyon off of Old Hwy 91. Take Exit 63 off of I-15, go south 1 mile and turn left. There are a lot of good rides from novice to more experienced. The orange is where I marked the track manuelly and the fuchsia is an actual track data from my GPS. I forgot to turn it on until half way through the ride!
Update: I rode on May 17, 08 and added a few more trails. (The loop to the South and to the East.) There are a lot more up there, but after 3 hours my butt was too sore to ride anymore!
(By clicking on the "View Larger Map" it will open in a larger window in Google Maps. Then if you click on "View in Google Earth" located at the top right of the map you view it in Google Earth and get the full effect of a 3-D view in which you can turn and spin.)
I have a couple elevation profiles here because I didn't start tracking at the beginning of the route and so had to create it the first part on my mapping software. This is the first half of the ride.
This is the second part of the ride.
This Topo Map shows the tracking of the second part of the ride, the actual Blackrock area. Looking to the North. I-15 is the red line at the bottom. You can access Black Rock Canyon off of the frontage road as well.
This topo map shows the road coming down from Chinese Peak, looking towards the East.
This topo map shows a birds eye view of the whole route that I recreated on the map, with the picture locations.
Summary: This is an amazing ride so close to Pocatello. A good challenge and work out, some beautiful scenery, but not too long. If you aren't afraid of some loose rock and relatively steep climbs it is worth checking out. It is accessable with a 4 wheeler, but you need to be experienced enough to handle it on steep climbs and a few hair pin turns.
