Trap Creek Trail, Marten Lake, Swamp Creek Trail
Level of Difficulty: 6-Middle Intermediate--this was a great ride except for the 20 trees that we had to manuver around, climb over, drag out of the way, etc. The trail was well maintained other than that. There may have been a recent storm that had knocked a lot of trees down.
Elevations: 6666' to 7913'
Starting Point Coordinates: N44°19.694' W115°07.183' (Trail head of Trap Creek Trail off Flat Creek Rd.)
Length of Trail: 11 miles
Approximate time: 3 hours
Date of Ride: July 4, 2008
Description: After finishing this ride I wondered if I was Jonah and there was some hidden disobedience to God in my life! Earlier in the week I had ridden the
ride of no return and had just recovered. I met a friend up near Stanley at the Lola Campground to do some riding. We had thought of riding to Bridal Falls, but didn't really know what it would be like and how long it would take. He was riding a Suzuki DR650, not exactly a single track bike, weighing in at 330 lbs. By the time we got to Marten Lake we decided that we had had enough for one day and headed back down a different trail, Swamp Creek, that we assumed would connect to Flat Creek Rd. (Bad assumption!) The trail was actually a great trail, but the fallen trees kind of took the fun out of it. It took us almost 2 1/2 hours to go less than 7 miles trying to get around and over around 20 trees!
